About this tool

Retail math is designed to feel better than it is: '30% off plus an extra 20% at the till' is not 50% off — the second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so the true combined cut is 44%. This discount calculator exists to make that visible before you pay. Enter the original price and one or more discount percentages, and it returns the final price, the amount saved, and the real combined percentage — the number that matters when you're deciding whether a 'deal' is a deal. It also runs the reverse direction: type a sale price and a discount and get the original, which settles 'was it ever worth 200?' arguments in seconds. Tax handling is explicit too — most countries tax the discounted price, and the tool applies tax after discounts by default so the total matches your receipt. The math is currency-agnostic: dollars, euros, rupees or points all behave identically, so ignore the currency symbols and read the numbers. Every calculation happens locally in your browser.

FAQ

Does 20% + 10% equal 30% off?
No — stacking multiplies: 20% then 10% leaves you paying 0.8 × 0.9 = 72% of the original, which is 28% total off. The calculator shows the real combined percentage whenever discounts stack.
Is tax applied before or after the discount?
In most countries, tax applies to the discounted price — so the tool calculates the discounted subtotal first, then adds tax. That matches how your receipt works almost everywhere.
Can I work out the original price from a sale price?
Yes — reverse mode divides the sale price by (1 − discount) as a decimal. A 150 item at 25% off came from 150 ÷ 0.75 = 200.
Is 50% off plus another 50% off free?
Never — it's 75% off. The second half applies to the half price you're already paying. Run it on the page and watch the combined percentage.
Does it work with any currency?
Yes — the math is currency-agnostic, so use it for dollars, euros, rupees or loyalty points alike. Ignore the symbol and read the numbers.
How do I check a Black Friday 'deal'?
Enter the claimed original price and the discount, compare the calculated final price with the tag, and check the original against the item's price history. If the 'original' was inflated, the combined percentage is your honest discount.
